Privacy Policy
Effective October 28, 2026
Summary: Everclef does not require an account to practice, does not display advertising and does not track visitors. Information about your practice is stored on your own device. If you join a class, the name you enter and your rounds on the pieces your teacher assigns are stored online so your teacher can see them.
Information stored on your device
Everclef stores the following information in your browser’s local storage. It is accessible only to this site on your device and, except as described under Classes, is not transmitted elsewhere:
- Practice records: the notes presented, your answers, your response times and your scores. When the microphone is used, the note detected is stored with each answer; the audio itself is not. Your stats and Progress are calculated from these records.
- Settings: timing, tempo, clefs, round length and sound.
- Pieces: the title, the notes and the original file name of each sheet you add.
- Class membership (only if you join a class): the class name, the name you entered, the pieces assigned to the class, rounds waiting to be sent while you are offline, and a sign-in token that identifies this device to Everclef’s database.
You may delete this information at any time. Reset stats (in Your stats) removes practice records, the delete button on a piece removes that piece, and clearing this site’s data in your browser settings removes all of it.
Classes
A teacher may create a class and give students a class code. Joining a class is optional, and practicing does not require it. If you join a class with a code, the following information is stored in Everclef’s online database:
- The name you enter, such as a first name and last initial, and the class you joined.
- For each round you finish on a piece assigned to your class: the piece, whether it was shuffled or in order, the date and time, your score, wrong answers, response times and the notes you missed.
Random drills, Your stats, Clef notes and pieces you add yourself are not sent, even while you are in a class. No email address, password or other contact information is requested from students.
This information is visible to the teacher of your class. It is not visible to other students. You may leave a class on your device at any time from the Join page; the rounds already sent remain with your teacher. Your teacher may remove you from the class, which deletes your rounds, or you may ask for their deletion at the address below.
Teacher accounts
Teachers create an account with a name, an email address and a password. Everclef stores the teacher’s name and email address, the classes they create, and the pieces they assign. Passwords are stored by the sign-in service in hashed form and are not visible to Everclef. A teacher may delete a class at any time, which deletes its students and their rounds.
Security check
The join form and the teacher sign-up and sign-in form use Cloudflare Turnstile, a security check provided by Cloudflare, Inc., to keep automated programs from creating accounts. It loads only once you start filling in one of those forms. To tell a person from a program, Cloudflare receives technical information from your browser, such as your IP address and browser and device characteristics. The check usually runs without any action from you; occasionally it asks you to click a box. Cloudflare’s handling of this information is described in its Turnstile privacy policy.
Sheet music files
PDF and MusicXML files you add are processed entirely within your browser and are not uploaded. Only the extracted notes, the title and the file name are retained, on your device.
Microphone
Everclef uses the microphone only when you select Piano or Sing, and only after your browser has asked for your permission. Audio is analyzed in real time within your browser to identify the note played or sung. It is not recorded, stored or transmitted.
Information Everclef does not collect
Students do not need an account or an email address. Everclef does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking technologies, and does not sell or share personal information. Fonts and audio files are served from this site rather than from third parties. A visitor who does not join a class or sign in as a teacher does not connect to Everclef’s database, and does not load the security check unless they start filling in one of those forms.
Hosting
Everclef is hosted by Vercel Inc. As with any website, Vercel’s servers receive standard technical information with each request, such as your IP address and browser type. Vercel’s handling of this information is described in its privacy policy.
Database
Class information and teacher accounts are stored with Supabase Inc., which provides Everclef’s database and sign-in service, on servers in the United States. Supabase’s handling of this information is described in its privacy policy. Access rules in the database itself limit each teacher to their own classes and each student to their own records.
Children
Everclef is intended for high school music students and is not directed at children under 13. Students who join a class provide only a name of their choosing; Everclef does not ask them for contact information.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated before Everclef stores any information beyond what is described here. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
